Khan welcomes verdict against Gilani

slamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to disqualify Yousaf Raza Gilani as the Prime Minister. In a statement issued Tuesday, Khan said that the verdict came about on a petition filed by PTI. The party took the decision to approach the apex court because after Yousaf Raza Gilani was convicted for contempt of court, but the Speaker National Assembly refused to forward the disqualification reference against him to the Election Commission, he added. Imran Khan termed the verdict of the Supreme Court as historic, saying that it demarcated the limits of judicial and parliamentary authority. “It will set a precedent that once the superior judiciary has convicted someone, no non judicial forum can hold otherwise,” said Khan. Imran Khan also said that the decision was a victory for rule of law, for supremacy of the constitution and in the final analysis for equity and justice.
